AAA Looking for new craftsman

AAA Looking for new craftsman

November 22, 2010  |  Workshop

Workshop at FuoriBiennale.
From 14th July to 10th September.

The AAA CERCASI NUOVO ARTIGIANO project involves both designers at an international level and the sphere of crafts in the creation of new crafts. The project’s aim is to show, through the collaboration between craftsmen and designers, that today a new kind of artisan is developing, one who can wed research and technology to traditional know-how. A figure who knows how to become part of the contemporary context by mixing characteristics of the industrial world with the abilities and elements intrinsic to the world of crafts.

AAA CERCASI NUOVO ARTIGIANO develop two fields of action: a creative Workshop and a Festival of crafts.
The workshop involve ten designers and nine craft firms. From 14th July to 10th September, ten Italian and international designers, chosen from the most interesting on the international scene, will work in close contact with nine craft firms from the Northeast, each specialized in different sectors. During the workshop each designer will create 3 prototypes potentially ready to be launched on the market.

The ten designers involved (Asprostudio, Luca Bertoncello, Alberto Caiola,Fabien Cappello, Matteo Cibic, Silke de Vivo, Merel Karhof, Lucia Massari, Resign, Bethan Laura Wood, Zaven, and Matteo Zorzenoni) are among the top national and international young emergent creators; they have been chosen for this experimental project by the most authoritative Italian foundations and training centres. The designers have studied in the most important teaching centres in Europe, including Fabrica, the Milan polytechnic, and the Royal College of Art, London.

The nine chosen crafts firms are, instead, examples of the “art of knowing how to make” and “knowing how to make artfully”, the foundation of the excellence and the competitive advantage acquired over the past decades by the firms in the Northeast. The craft firms work in various sectors and thus allow greater possibilities for experimenting and for contamination between various materials and manufacturing techniques.

Tutors of the workshop are Martino Gamper and Aldo Cibic and Tommaso Corà from Cibicworkshop.
